Success comes in many forms. It’s not just startups that conquer the market with innovative ideas, but also individuals who decide to change the world around them, whether they are entrepreneurs, scientists, students or philanthropists. Sometimes all it takes is a bold idea, other times it takes years of persistent work. But they have one thing in common – they don’t give up, they look for new ways and push the boundaries of possibility with their efforts. In our section Paths of Success we give space to these people who have a vision and the courage to make it happen, even if the path to the goal is not always easy…
Videos are an indispensable communication tool today – whether it’s marketing, education or social media. WEBOUT has set itself the goal of making this creation as simple and accessible as possible. You could see their work in the campaigns of Notino, Sparta football club or Česká spořitelna, for example.
So far, the company has been working with large and small companies, but from this year it wants to offer its services to the general public. So what exactly does the company do and how could it help you in your life? Find out in the following interview with Michal Orsava, co-founder of the revolutionary project and the second most creative startup in the Czech Republic thanks to the Creative Business Cup 2025 competition .
1. How would you explain to them what you actually do and why it is useful?
Webout is a technology that allows you to create videos where you or someone else can be the main actor, quite simply. It allows you to make the videos that are used on the internet today more personal and customised. For example, instead of talking in general to everyone, the video can be tailored specifically to you. It’s like magic that makes videos more interesting and entertaining. From such videos, you can go straight to shopping, influencing the storyline, registering tickets or arranging appointments.
2. What are the main barriers you wanted to overcome in creating videos? In what ways are you groundbreaking?
We wanted to overcome the complexity and high costs that come with creating personalised videos. At the same time, we want to announce to the world that video is no longer set in stone, but can be constantly updated and changed every second (entire scenes, any data, language,…) Previously, creating such videos was almost impossible, very expensive and time consuming. Webout has simplified this, allowing you to do it on any computer without the need for complicated equipment, and at a very affordable cost. Thus, personalized videos reaching a much wider audience can change marketing communications as we know it.
3. So far, your services have been used mainly by companies and entrepreneurs. What made you decide to open up to individuals and the general public as well?
The decision to open up to individuals was driven by the opportunity to expand our product to a wider market and to demonstrate its use in everyday life. People today increasingly want personalised experiences and Webout offers this experience for everyone.
4. You’ve made no secret of the fact that you want to do great things and you’re succeeding. What is your dream business? Conversely, what is your “business nightmare”?
Our dream, business dream, is for Webout to be the global leader in personalized video. We want to be the company that changes the way people communicate through video. Our “nightmare” is that people would take personalized video as something complicated, incomprehensible or inaccessible. We want it to be something natural and commonplace and video-personalization to become a marketing standard.
5. When you look back 5 years, is there anything you would advise your “younger and inexperienced” self?
I’m actually happy with the evolution that has taken place over the last 5 years. I’m one of those people that covid has helped find more meaning in what they do. But I had to be in the right place at the right time, know what I know and meet the right people.
If I had changed anything, it’s possible that Webout wouldn’t have been created at all, as I wouldn’t have met my co-founder Karel Juřička.
But what I would advise is to start looking into AI and the possibilities of generating content through AI sooner. As for Webout, I would definitely advise us to spend more time on testing and user feedback. We had great ideas, but faster iteration and listening to customer feedback could have moved us even faster. Not being afraid to experiment and being open to change is key.
6. Finally, tell us. Do you have a trick to survive this startup roller coaster in good health? 😉
My trick is to keep a positive mind and not forget about the team. In a team, we always have each other’s backs, and I’ve had to learn to pass on work that I would normally do myself to others. Without that, the company’s development would not be sustainable and you would easily go crazy. Startups are a roller coaster, but it’s important to focus on what motivates us and find a balance between work and rest. And of course, taking a break and laughing every now and then too. That’s the best way to survive!
Thank you so much for the interview!
